History of Strawn Carpet
Ron Strawn is carrying on a family tradition. Hoyt Strawn started in the carpet installation business in the 1950's working for JB Wilson Carpet Laying Company in Atlanta . He installed carpet all over the eastern United States in the finest hotels, department stores, theaters and homes. Hoyt started his own carpet installation business working evenings and weekends. His business grew so much that he decided to work full time on his own. This was the start of Hoyt Strawn Carpet. At this time, his wife Evelyn began to help run the business. After several years, Hoyt was able to obtain a carpet line of business from Coronet Carpets in Dalton . His brother Oren Strawn was the mill representative for Coronet. About this time, Hoyt's other brother Joel began working with him in the business. Again, the business grew to such an extent, that Hoyt began to only install the carpet he sold. He added several more lines and another installation crew. His son Ronny became involved in the installation part of the business.
Hoyt Strawn Carpet was built on low prices, first quality carpet and guaranteed customer satisfaction. Hoyt was known in West Georgia as the carpet man. People knew they could trust him to keep his word. He offered an unconditional guarantee for his work. His reputation was his most important asset. His brother Oren is quoted as saying that the people who bought carpet from Hoyt Strawn never really knew how much value they were getting for their purchase. The prices charged by Hoyt Strawn Carpet were always significantly lower than the prices of larger stores even when those goods were marked down.
The business was closed in 1993 after Hoyt's death. His son Ron Strawn, continued to be involved in the business until it s closure. Ron, a CPA by training, has a 25 year career with BellSouth in Atlanta . Upon his retirement, Ron decided to open up a floor covering store based on the same principles used by his mother and father over the years. He decided to carry on the legacy left by Hoyt Strawn Carpets by providing competitive pricing on well know brands, offering personalized service and guaranteeing customer satisfaction. Strawn Carpet Etc opened up for business in June 2004.
